Outstanding experience! Very secluded, safe and beautiful surroundings.

Peaceful, Quiet, and the Views!

Found this property on Vrbo when we were planning our trip to Big Bend. Pictures don't do it justice. Very peaceful, quiet, and the views are absolutely stunning. The house itself was awesome, very well designed and very clean. My wife and son of 2.5 years accompanied me on the trip. One of the best parts of this, and very important to me, was the communication by the owners via phone and text before, during, and after our stay. If you are planning on driving to the Big Bend area this place is a must!

Absolutely Stunning

As others have mentioned, Boca de la Roca is not just a place to stay. It’s an experience. Everything was top notch, from the host’s responsiveness to the amenities. The location and views are absolutely stunning. No complaints here!

we hope to be back in the future!

My wife and I had a great stay at the Boca de la Roca property. The views are stunning, the accommodations were unique and comfortable, and it served as a perfect "base camp" for visiting Big Bend park. The property is a bit off the beaten path, but to us that only added to the charm. We hope to be back in the future!

Unique Property reflecting the pioneering spirit of the west

A unique property reflecting the pioneering spirit of the West Texas Chihuahuan desert and offering the best way to appreciate its beauty. Completely off the grid (although you’d never know it given the modern comforts ) and surrounded by wonderful scenery and serenity. Sunrises, hikes, access to Big Bend and its beauty, Terlingua nearby, sunsets, gorgeous night skies and a really cool spot to stay. Can highly recommend!

Fantastic

We stayed for four nights while we visited Big Bend National Park. The house and property are fantastic. The setup of the house is perfect, with a separate common area with a kitchen and sitting area. Ross and Christin were excellent hosts. They were very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We loved the area and were thankful for the beautiful and peaceful place to relax after a day of hiking.

Truly Special Retreat

Ross and his family have created a truly special retreat in the mountains. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the peaceful silence and breathtaking serenity of the surroundings. At night, the darkness was absolute—perfect for stargazing under pristine dark skies. Exploring the vast property was a highlight, with countless fascinating plants, artifacts, and stunning views. The home was spotless yet personal. Thoughtful touches, like historical photography and the use of local materials, beautifully tied the house to its surroundings. The bathrooms and kitchen were beautiful, with large windows for natural light and cross breezes. The decor felt thoughtful and unique. A few things to note: There are stairs to the main floor. Water is hauled in, so conservation is key. And the last mile of road is a fun adventure—bumpy but manageable. We had no trouble in our RWD 2001 Toyota Sequoia, and the hosts kindly guided us in. We absolutely loved our stay and will be back!

Amazing Spring Break Stay

We had an incredible Spring Break at this property with our two kids! It was the perfect place to disconnect, relax, and enjoy nature. The home was comfortable and well-equipped, making our stay easy and enjoyable. One of the highlights was exploring the mountain located on the property. Great hiking opportunities nearby in Big Bend National Park and mountain biking in Big Bend Ranch State Park. The property itself was beautiful and provided plenty of space for us to unwind. Whether we were taking in the scenery, spending quality time together, or just enjoying the peaceful atmosphere, it was exactly what we needed.Ross was fantastic to communicate with—quick to respond, helpful, and made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway with access to great outdoor adventures.

For Sure in our Top 3

This is a one-of-a-kind treasure near Big Bend! Kellen’s property has views like no other! The house itself is Ah-Mazing! He’s super responsive and helpful. We have been visiting Big Bend for ten years, and this is for sure in our top 3!

Quiet, Remote, Beautiful

Loved this property. It is rather remote. As others said, you'll need a 4 wheel or all wheel drive vehicle. Everything about the house is perfect and the bed we used was very comfortable. We unfortunately experienced weather (freezing) seldom seen in this area and were without water for a couple days. Ross and Christin were very attentive and kept in touch regarding this situation, which in our travels in the area seemed to happen to many households. I would not hesitate to stay at this location again! Wish it had been warmer so that we could have stayed out longer at night to look at the stars. Absolutely the clearest we've seen!

Get outside and unwind!

Outstanding place to stay in Big Bend area. Excellent remote location to really unplug and unwind in the scenic high desert mountains of west Texas.

I would give 10 stars if I could!

I would give 10 stars if I could! This beautiful cabin is surrounded by stunning mountains, creating a truly picturesque setting. On top of that, Ross and Christin are incredibly kind and generous hosts. When my car battery died in Terlingua, Ross went out of his way to pick up a new battery on his way back and even helped with the installation—who does that?! And if that wasn’t enough, Christin graciously offered us a spare car. Their hospitality went above and beyond, making our stay unforgettable. Highly recommend!

Such an extraordinary place

What a unique space in such an extraordinary place. Had a fun time in nearby Terlingua. Ross was very friendly and helpful. He and his wife have put together such a thoughtful space for guests. We send postcards wherever we go and it was such a sweet surprise to find postcards (and stamps!). If you want a secluded space to explore and enjoy the stars, and maybe hit up Marfa and Big Bend (we did both!), this is the spot!

Good experience for my children

I stayed 3 days. It was a good experience for my children to live off grid, even though there wasn’t much difference using batteries and propane. The night sky view was excellent. A pack of five javelinas showed up one night. I tied a fluorescent pink piece of para cord on the mailbox at the end of the road you turn on. If you are returning at night, you can thank me later.

We really enjoyed this cabin

We really enjoyed this cabin. Kellen built the cabin himself and the attention to every detail was pretty obvious.

Amazing stay under the stars

It is everything I read in previous reviews and more. Ross was the most amazing host. We saw deer, chipmunks, jackrabbits and a coyote at the property. We climbed the local mountain out back every morning and drank in the sunset every evening. High-clearance vehicle is a must to get up the trail to the cabin but easily manageable in our front-wheel drive SUV. I don't want to spoil any more. If you are going to spend some time in and around Big Bend and don't want to slum it out in Terlingua surrounded by tourist traps, then you have found your destination. We can't wait to head back. (And somehow the drive from Dallas wasn't bad at all -- even with my in-laws and a 5 and 7 year old!)

Like something out of a dream

Ahhhh this place was like something out of a dream. What an enchanting experience. The cabin is incredibly beautiful and unique. So much love and hard work into everything. Our lovely hosts even left us homemade Christmas cookies since we stayed for the holidays. The cabin is laid out in a very interesting way but allows for a lot of privacy between rooms which was nice. Our host was so helpful and communicative; he definitely made sure we had everything we needed. Only thing to note, is be prepared to conserve resources like power and water a bit. No big deal to us, but may be for some. Thanks Ross, I would highly recommend your place to everyone!

We had the best time here

We had the best time here. The sunsets and stargazing were beautiful. We really appreciated how communicative Kellen was and how he checked in on us to make sure we were having a good time. He made sure to take time to give us good recommendations around the area as well. Looking forward to a chance when we could come back.

The Views are Breathtaking

We had a great stay at this Airbnb! The views were breathtaking. Our family really enjoyed drinking hot cocoa on the deck and stargazing at night. And the home was beautiful and clean. Ross and Christin were super friendly and responsive! Would stay here again. Thank you!

Peaceful Getaway

Looking for a peaceful getaway? This is it! This beautiful home is off the beaten path but still close to Big Bend National Park. We used this as our home base for day trips to hike and explore Big Bend and then come back to relax and unwind. The amazing view and home touches make this the perfect place for couples to enjoy the beauty of the area. The owners are super kind and great hosts.

Solitude

It is exactly as advertised. Quiet and remote. Nicely furnished and equipped with all I needed. My host was on time to guide me up to the house and explain everything about off grid living. I was worried about accessing the house in my car and almost rented an SUV. My car is an E series Mercedes which is fairly low to the ground, but I was able to navigate up and down the road for 4 days, only scraping the bottom once. Not an issue, just take your time and pick your route around the high/low spots. Be sure to set an alarm at moon set if the moon is fairly full. It was worth getting up at 4 AM every morning just to sit with a coffee and look at the sky, amazing. I'm already planning on coming back again next year.

Quiet and Relaxing

Close proximity to Big Bend National Park. House is charming and uniquely designed with wonderful views. Host was very easy to communicate with and checked in to ensure we were doing well during our stay. Amazing views of the night sky.

Amazing Getaway!

My husband and I enjoyed a long weekend at Boca de la Roca. It was everything we wanted it to be and more! Ross is an excellent host and has definitely created an amazing property. We enjoyed some time in Big Bend National Park but found ourselves ready to be back up at the house to enjoy all of the views. The stargazing is phenomenal - highly recommend this property!

Definitely Recommend

I was very happy with the place I stayed at over the last couple of days. It was clean, peaceful, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. I would definitely recommend it to others and will be coming back again. I’m very appreciative that Ross let us stay!

Family Adventure

Great place. Clean and very creative designs. Met the owner at the turn off. Followed Ross about 15 minutes to the cabin. Decent little offroad climb last mile but my stock full size truck made it easy. Just a little but exciting. It could be challenging in the dark so arrive when the light is good. We cooked breakfast and dinner every night. Kitchen is well stocked with utensils. 30 minutes to the national park entrance was enjoyable and easy to Terlingua attractions.

The views from the cabin are epic. The technology of off grid luxury living is cool. Recent fiber optic cable installation gives full strength wifi connections to the world though. Got to share the photos!!

I fully recommend this experience.

Great Stay!

Great Stay! Short drive into town and a straight shot down the highway to Big Bend park entrance. Super dark skies...you can see the milky way sitting on the front porch. Ross is super helpful and provided great recommendations. We had a great time!

This place is beautiful

This place is beautiful, the best place to look at the stars, not far from Big Bend, great location and beautiful place, also an amazing host. I wish I could stay here for longer!

One of the best AirBnbs I've visited

One of the best AirBnbs I've visited. If you're going to Big Bend, this is the place to be. Priced incredibly well for the value. Impressive views, comfortable, within reasonable distance of the park and local stores/restaurants. Ross was incredibly proactive and gave me a call to run down details and information for the area multiple days before our scheduled visit and then gave us a call upon arrival to go over things we need to know regarding the house. Beds and furniture were comfortable and the house was always comfortable even being in the desert in the middle of summer! We will definitely be returning in the future!

Truly Special

Kellen’s place is truly special, offering all the comfort you could possibly want in this self-sustainable oasis. Every detail was thoughtfully planned, clearly reflecting the passion of the owner. The location is very remote, so be prepared for a bit of off-roading and ensure you have the right vehicle for the final stretch of the drive. It’s a great place to stay if you’re visiting Big Bend – highly recommended. Kellen was super easy to communicate with, very accommodating, and an all-around great host. Thanks for your hospitality, Kellen!

Had a good stay

Had a good stay at Ross' place. The skies couldn't have been darker. You can see the Milky-way with your bare eyes. We didn't have any issues with the house or host. Would recommend.

Beautiful house in a fantastic place

Beautiful house in a fantastic place. You feel one with the nature around you. The view never bores. At night, the star splendor, and the view over the park during the day. Would book again soon. And despite being off the grid, all amenities are provided. Ross and his family are particularly friendly people and communicate clearly and quickly.

Gorgeous, Private, Comfortable

Gorgeous, private, comfortable, stylish cabin with breathtaking views. We've stayed at many places in the area and this was top-tier. A lovely retreat for our 24th anniversary! Would also be a great space for two couples. We look forward to returning and sharing with others!

byLea S. onBoca de la Roca
Stunning location with incredible views

This thoughtfully built cabin is in a stunning location with incredible views of the desert at all times of the day. We took lovely walks directly on the premise, a canoeing trip on the Rio Grande, and some quirky restaurant and bar outings in Terlingua Ghosttown. Host communication was also excellent and made for four very memorable days here.

byJosh V. onBoca de la Roca
One of the coolest houses we've stayed in

Probably one of the coolest houses we’ve stayed in. The views are amazing! We had an amazing time and plan on staying here again. Peaceful spot to get away from city life for a few days. Loved it

byCarol S. onBoca de la Roca
Beautiful Location on Top of the Hill

The home took full advantage of the beautiful location on top of the hill, with mountains nearby. We loved sitting on the deck at sunrise, sunset, all the time! Ross was a great host, answering all questions quickly, and even dropped off an extra water jug when it got low during our stay.

byElizabeth B. onBoca de la Roca
Loved the house!

Loved the house! Views were fantastic and location was very private. Ross was super responsive and sent great instructions for check in and use of the house. Close enough to Big Bend for day trips in to the park.

byPredrag K. onBoca de la Roca
Boca de la Roca Rocks!

We had a great stay at Boca de la Roca. The house is located at the top of the hill with a 360 degrees of amazing views and it is a short drive to the Big Band national park. Being there feels like you are transported into another, tranquil, world. Each of the well-appointed bedrooms has its own bathroom and the kitchen/leaving area is equipped with everything we needed. Maybe, having a toaster would be nice, but maybe it is intentionally not there as the house is solar powered. We would definitively stay here again if in the area.

byLaurent H. onBoca de la Roca
Outrageous Views

Awesome stay - Great hosts! Outrageous views on top of a bluff!

5 star cabin under a sky full of stars!

We really enjoyed the time spent in the cabin which have a 5 star amenities and the sky is 5 star too….no…there are way more than five stars!!!
What we appreciated the most is that the house is environmental friendly so they have rainwater tanks and solar panels.
Then, Ross and his wife are the best host that you can have over there…they help us in each way possible!
Couldn’t be a better choice for staying in the Big Bennd area… we never forget that night!
We traveled from Rome, Italy to be there and we really enjoyed every single moment…What an unforgettable night!
