Unique Cabin

Unique cabin with full kitchen, great bathrooms and beautiful views. Host is very accommodating and responsive. Solar powered, great WiFi, nice deck area for star gazing.

Highly Recommend

We really enjoyed the views and the overall ambience of this property! Also loved the overall sustainability of the cabin. Highly recommend

This place was better than we thought it would be - and we had high expectations. Very secluded and private. Amazing off grid house close to Big bend National Park - it was epic. Stars were amazing and the nights weren't hot and very comfortable for August. We will be back. One of the best vacations I've ever been on.

Beauty and Divine Mystery

Loved our stay here and Ross was a terrific host. I am certain there are very few cabins this beautifully designed with such 360 views in Big Bend. We had plans to do more things but loved staring at our own view of the mountains from the porch so much that we didn’t leave. It’s off the grid, solar-powered, and everything performed perfectly, including wifi and cell service. Ross put so many loving touches into this modern, rustic place. One tip: It’s better to have a 4-wheel drive to get up the final road to the cabin, but we made it without one (in a Grand Cherokee).

The place to stay!

The desert never looked better!

Boca de la Roca was a wonderful escape! I went for a little retreat with my girlfriends and it’s just what we needed.

The views are AMAZING! We spent hours just sitting outside and starting out into the beautiful desert. It’s truly mesmerizing and  unforgettable. This cabin is secluded, but close enough to visit the national park, the ghost town, and even Marfa.

The cabin itself was clean, spacious, and well taken care of. 10/10!

This place is AMAZING!

We visited Terlingua for a girls trip and the cabin, the views, everything about it is beyond beautiful! The owner was wonderful to work with and made sure our group of 4 was well educated on the house and the area! I definitely want to go back with family! Highly recommend staying here!

Beautiful Cabin, Amazing Trip

This place is amazing. As great as the pictures are that you see, still doesn't do it justice once you arrive. Secluded with beautiful views. My family went to Big Bend for a few days to road trip and hike the park. Couldn't have stayed at a better place. The host, Ross was very communicative and helpful during our stay with suggestions on places to eat, visit etc. Highly recommend this location

This Place Is Amazing

This place is amazing and so is the property owner, Ross! Incredible views from every spot of the house. We saw mule deer and javelinas or peccaries (not sure which) near the home. The rental is private and remote with modern amenities. Cell service and Wi-Fi worked perfectly from the home. Location was perfect, we visited both the national and state parks. The view at night is incredible, it almost doesn't seem real! The sunrises and sunsets look like a painting, just beautiful! Full service kitchen, with gas range and microwave. Can’t wait to go back.

Loved This Stay

Loved this stay, we felt extremely welcomed and taken care of. Really well designed and built cabin and we felt every small touch was thought through. Extremely clean and a beautiful view of sunrise, sunset and the stars. The photos don't do it justice, it really is the most remote location you can find that also has easy access to town and the National Park. You do need a vehicle that's higher off the ground to get up the unpaved mountain, we rented a crossover and it was definitely needed. Overall, great stay! Will definitely recommend to family and friends and would stay again if we're ever back in the area!

Its a Top Place in the United States

This house. My heart. It is one of the most beautiful and unique properties my family and I have ever stayed at - and we like to think we have stayed at some beautiful places. The mile and a half driveway up to the house lets you know this isn’t your average stay. Glad we had 4WD and Ross’ help getting to the place the first time. Everything in the house feels special and well thought out. The kitchen was the perfect size for our one week stay - enough to hold the groceries we needed and cook 2 of our 3 meals. Bedrooms were comfortable and the positioning of the house meant cool desert breezes came in your windows every night to cool things down. A bonus: The fact that it’s off the grid taught my two teenage boys how to take quick showers and be thoughtful about energy they were consuming. 😉 But that’s not why you stay here. Every morning our collective breaths were taken away by the views. You’re on your own mountain and can literally see for miles and miles. One night we watched for HOURS while a storm blew in. Sunrises and sunsets were incredible. In the morning sitting on the porch, it’s quiet and peaceful as you watch birds fly by and the cacti and grasses blow in the wind. And at night? THE STARS. While we were there we also saw a super moon AND a lunar eclipse so it felt unreal. Ross is also a thoughtful and responsive host. We loved hearing about the cabin and he made sure our stay was a special one. Listen to his recommendations on places to eat (Bad Rabbit Cafe and DB’s Rustic BBQ were our favorites!) and what to do. It’s about 35 min to Terlingua and 55 to the park. You won’t notice either because the scenery is so captivating. You will not find a place like this anywhere in the area…and I’d say it’s a top place in the United States for us. My husband just kept saying “This place is magical.” And he was right.

High On A Plateau

Great location high on a plateau. We enjoyed the 1-mile private loop road for evening hiking... javelina & deer. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Showers, rest rooms, bedrooms, living area with kitchen, and deck area, all well appointed and thought out. Enjoyed the stay... note: the road up to the house, just under 1.5 miles, will require a truck our other high clearance vehicle. Low Gear!

Do yourself a favor, and book now while you still can!

From the first moment you arrive you realize this place is one of a kind. The property owner, Ross, is super helpful and has good reason to be proud of his one of a kind property. The rental is remote with modern amenities. If you’re worried about being unreachable, don’t be. Cell service was good and Wi-Fi was great. If you want to be unreachable, you can be that too. Location is beautiful and something out of a postcard. Close (by area standards) to both the national and state parks. We looked around a lot, and there is just nothing like this property available. Seriously. You could spend most of a day just checking out the area around the cabin. The nighttime sky was unbelievable. Mule deer family make nice quiet neighbors. Full service kitchen, with gas range. Beds were comfortably. Solar and water catchment systems worked great. Living off the grid shouldn’t be this nice. It’s really hard to say enough good things about this property. Can’t wait to go back.

Awesomely Awesome!

What an awesome getaway! Our first night was a reset for us... walking the trail, exploring the grounds, watching the sunset, and enjoying the majestic star filled night. The quietness and stillness of the mountain retreat was truly a blessing and a much needed reset...the sweetness of the fresh air and natural beauty surrounding you - perfection! The property is first class and so worth the trip!

Then the next day enjoying Big Bend only added to the experience and just a short beautiful drive from the property!

Thank you to Ross for the warm welcome and special treats, and even post cards for our kids and family ready to send from Terlingua. The special, personal touches were everywhere and greatly appreciated! Well done!

House Is Amazing

Pictures don't do it justice, views are amazing. Definitely bring an SUV though, the trek to the house is amazing, and a bit of an adventure.

Best Spot Around

Hands down our new favorite spot for our visits to the Big Bend parks. We have stayed at multiple places in the area that are nice but this place has it all - the best views, wonderful patio, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, prime location, etc. Ross and his wife are wonderful hosts and have done a great job with this rental.

We already booked our next stay!

Views Can't Be Beat

Ross was a great communicator throughout our stay. Upon booking he called to go over some details of the property with us and to reassure us that he’d help us get to the home because access is quite remote and not particularly well marked unless you are familiar with the area. Ross ended up meeting us at his home (which is between Alpine, TX and Big Bend NP) and leading the way in his pickup to the cabin, about 25 minutes away. The first half of the drive was easy in our fully loaded (5 people and lots of gear) Odyssey minivan, but the ascent up the gravel/rock driveway for the final 15 minutes was quite tricky. After we unloaded all our gear at the cabin, the extra clearance made the subsequent ventures down and up the driveway much less difficult. If at all possible, as Ross recommends, I, too would highly recommend a high clearance 4WD vehicle. It would be an easy trip if you drive one of those. As for the “cabin”... beautiful and thoughtfully constructed. We had everything we needed for our family of 5. The views can’t be beat— literally on top of a mountain overlooking a valley and other mountains in the distance, with beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and all the stargazing you could hope for. Home is off the grid due to its location, but amenities did not suffer. We had no issues with water or electricity, and the WiFi was strong. The location is great, too. 45 minutes from the entrance to Big Bend NP. In TX, 45 minutes is just down the road... man that’s a big state. We would highly recommend this property, and would definitely stay here again if we get a chance to return!

No Place Like It

Boca de la Roca is truly one of a kind. If you are traveling to the Big Bend region, there is absolutely no other place like it. Ross was a wonderful host and you can tell he went above and beyond in building just the perfect get-a-way to escape from the city, and ensuring that his guests have a 5 star experience. From the details and finishes of the house to the complete privacy and seclusion offered by this retreat, I could not speak highly enough about the experience. But the best of all - the sunrise, the sunset, the aerial view afforded staying high up in the foothills. And did I mention the night sky? Just stay here - you won't regret it!

Pictures Don't Do Justice!

The pictures do not do it justice! We had an amazing stay and Kellen Ross was an attentive, outstanding host. So many special touches throughout the cabin with a great “eye” with the choice of decor. The views are breathtaking and we had a fantastic time exploring the trail and photographing the landscape and the night skies. Very remote and much needed peace and quiet. Very conveniently located to both Big Bend parks.

As Advertised!

The views and the hospitality were spectacular. The house had everything we needed and was a perfect location to enjoy Big Bend. The beds were super comfortable, the house fully equipped, and included so many lovely touches. And did I mention the views?! Gorgeous sunrises, sunsets, and starlit nights. Thanks to Ross and family for making this part of our South Texas trip so enjoyable.

Untouched Beauty

We really enjoyed our time at Boca De La Roca. The property was beautiful on the inside and out. The views were amazing during the day being surrounded by the mountains and even better at night when gazing at the stars. Ross was an excellent host who went above and beyond to make sure me and my family were comfortable with our stay there from beginning to end. It is definitely a great place to stay if you are looking for a unique experience that highlights the spirit that the Big Bend region has to offer in terms of the untouched beauty and vastness of nature.

Tranquil Off-the-Grid Cabin

This cabin (and the location) were even more beautiful than the pictures expressed! The host Ross was very friendly and communicative and helped every step of the trip. The cabin itself is VERY remote. It's self sustaining running on solar power with water gathered from rain run-off. We had power (including internet) and water the entire trip. The cabin had everything that we needed and was the perfect distance from Big Bend. I highly recommend staying here. The views were breathtaking!

byMarlenn onBoca de la Roca
Incredible Stay

We had an incredible stay. Everything was sparkling clean and stylish. You can tell Ross had attention to every detail in every aspect of the cabin. The two rooms are completely separate from each other and the main common space, which I wasn’t sure how that would work with our kids. It actually worked out great and they loved it. We had a fun time driving up to it and enjoyed the most amazing views while eating breakfast and stargazing after dinner. Ross was a great host and I would definitely recommend his place to anyone coming out to Big Bend area!

byChristina onBoca de la Roca

Beautiful space, secluded location, and unparalleled views of sunrise, sunset, and stargazing! Highly recommended for those seeking luxury accommodations visiting nearby Big Bend National Park or off-the-grid relaxation!

Heaven on Earth

This Big Bend cabin was like a second vacation after long days at Big Bend National Park. The views are unparalleled and the cabin was designed perfectly to enjoy them. Ross, the owner, was very helpful and friendly. He really thought of everything when building this place. From the complimentary post cards, comfortable beds, stocked kitchen, artwork, restaurant recommendations, cozy patio and nature trails onsite....this place has it all. If you are looking for the perfect place to recover after a long day of hiking in the park, this is the place. Your soul will thank you!

Perfect Mountain Retreat

The pictures do not do this place justice. It’s is a very secluded location that sits on a mountain with views for 100 miles. A lot of careful planning was put into this place and it had everything we needed. The rooms have their own entrances from the outside which was very cool. There is the Terlingua Ranch Lodge close by with a pool, laundry, and an awesome restaurant. We could never get over the view and we plan on coming back!

byErin G. onBoca de la Roca

My friends and I had an amazing time staying at Boca de la Roca! The views are incredible and the house itself is awesome. Ross is so helpful and accommodating. I will definitely be staying here again.

Spectacular View in Peaceful Perfection

This getaway is artistically beautiful in its design, relaxing in its amenities, and placed in such wonderful privacy. We were able to see so much beauty. The views are stunning and the quietness is amazing. We saw herds of deer and other animals in the morning and a universe of stars at night. The sunrises and the sunsets are unparalleled. We really enjoyed the artistic detail of this unique lodge. The host was wonderfully attentive. Being off-grid is fun and everything worked great. We are already looking forward to booking here again. The stay was absolutely wonderful.

Great Experience

This place is for adventurous people that want to be in a very unique location. The house is off grid and the road in is a bit of a challenge but there's a reward for the effort. The house is great and Ross is one of the best hosts I've ever had. The night skies alone are worth the trip. This was one of the quietest places I've ever been in my 56 years of traveling. Staying here was a great experience.

A Wonderful and Relaxing Getaway!

Everything promised in the description for this property is right on point! We were a group of four adults and the set up was exactly perfect for us! We loved each having our own rooms and spent so much time on the deck and in the kitchen area. We are still talking about the beautiful views and location. The weather was perfect during the stay too! The cabin is outfitted with everything needed and it’s an easy drive to the parks. We cannot wait for our next stay!

The Best View To Wake Up To

The home was so incredibly beautiful and very clean it had everything we needed the views were spectacular! We saw more animals driving up to the house everyday then we did in the park! The property owner was very friendly and made sure we found the house and kept me very informed. Bring a telescope and you will not believe the beautiful stars you will see from the deck.

Incredible Place

Wow, what an incredible place. The drive up the mountain was a bit intimidating at first, but the cabin and the views are so worth it. Amazing sunrises and sunsets and a great outdoor seating area on the deck to take in the stars. The place is so well done - you can see the time and care that Ross put into building it and the details are amazing. It made for a perfect and comfortable getaway.

Awe Inspiring

Unique, cozy, and very clean. Easy location to Big Bend. Ross was very kind and helpful with great in town recommendations. The home itself is a work of art and geographical location is awe inspiring. Each morning during our stay we awoke to a beautiful sun rising over the mountains in the East and the full moon setting over the mountains in the West. Awesome memories made. This location is definitely an experience more so than a stay. If you are looking for a creative getaway, romantic retreat, or just a refresh to connect with nature, this is it! We highly recommend and look forward to booking again in the future.

Tranquility Base

Tranquility base!! One of the most peaceful and beautiful places ever! Spectacular 360 degree views. One of a kind sunsets from a private mountain top with hiking on the grounds. Close to Big Bend and the towns nearby. Beds are comfortable and we loved the rustic chic bungalow style and handmade decor. The host is wonderful, communicative and helpful, he treated us like family. We already have booked our next stay!

We must come back here!

So beautiful! Like the Grand Canyon, you can’t appreciate how amazing the views from here are from video alone. If you want to get away from the busy city, this cabin is the perfect place. Environmentally friendly. Well designed.

You could hear pin drop!

Breathtaking views and incredible night scapes made this private off-grid cabin experience my top trip for 2020.

The property is very peaceful and private. The views command your attention. I really enjoyed how much space I had to roam around and hike. The cabin is cozy, with cool design elements and loads of character. I really enjoyed the kitchen views, hot shower and bathroom sink details.

Hot tip! You’ll want to be in the kitchen before sunrise. Coffee on the front porch at this time is magic.

Ross was a fantastic host. He was both responsive and attentive. He also provided some great tips for getting around the area. I left really feeling like part of his extended family. He’s clearly gone to great lengths to personalize the experience and it shows. I had a wonderful experience and I can’t recommend Boca De La Roca enough!
