We loved our stay at Boca De La Roca!

We loved our stay at Boca De La Roca! We pretty much primarily stay in Airbnbs when we travel and this was easily one of our favorites, we will definitely be returning. If you are looking for a peaceful way to connect with nature with beautiful serene views, this is the right place. We even had some amazing bird watching and we got a special visit from a couple of deer in the early morning hours. The nights didn’t disappoint either, let’s just say the stars at night are big and bright…well you know the rest! It’s pretty cool staying in a home “off the grid” and it was easy, we just followed all of the guidance provided by Ross. Getting up and down the hill to the home wasn’t difficult either, we had 2 AWD vehicles so I think that helped, it’s a piece of cake once you get the hang of it! Thanks for the great stay Ross, hope to make it back soon!!!

The Premier Big Bend Property

As someone who has stayed at multiple West Texas vacation rentals over the years, I can say with confidence you will not find a better view or property owner that took the time and attention to detail to create such a wonderful space. While there is a neighbor to the East of the property within eyesight, it did not detract from the stay or vibe that most people seek to gain from the area. Beds were comfortable, amenities of the property were excellent… my only suggestion would be more comfortable outdoor furniture since that is what most people are looking to enjoy. The furniture on the patio doesn’t provide much comfort for long periods of outdoor enjoyment so that is my only critique but the property overall maintains a solid 5/5 rating. Will definitely return!

the stars at night, are big and bright

stargazing was superior. the owner/property manager met us at the entrance of the ranch and escorted us to the property as the terlingua ranch is very large. once we arrived, he personally instructed us on the use of all amenities. he is local which is always a plus when u are visiting somewhere new. he had recommendations on trips into the parks, hikes, and local eateries and supplies if needed. there were even some snippet’s about the surrounding geology for the property located in the property welcome book. the structure was as advertised. extremely clean, modern and comfortable: beds were very very comfortable and the showers were huge!! toiletries provided were nice quality as well. bath linens were soft and lush. ac, when needed, worked fine. fans throughout and mother nature provided cool breezy nights. fridge was perfect size for four adults to eat dinners at the cabin each night, and still store picnic items and snacks on top of that. gas cooktop and stove worked well.. absolutely NO BUGS! plenty of parking. extremely peaceful, quiet, and full of views that are as good as or better than those of the parks. conveniently located to both state and national park. as owner suggested, best to buy supplies in alpine or other city on way in as it is pretty high priced in terlingua if you run out or make initial purchases in terlingua. can’t wait to return. hard to believe such a nice property is called a cabin!!! highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the parks who wants privacy and beauty without having to “rough it”. hard to imagine you have wi-fi and tv that works when you can step outside and look up to see the milky way with the beaked eye. can’t say enough good things about this rental.

Spring Break Getaway

The view was amazing! The home is well crafted and fits the surroundings perfectly. It was a great place to relax after long days hiking in Big Bend. The host was the best. He met us to show us around the property (it’s solar powered w/backup generator) and had suggestions for the area. The only hurdle is getting to it. The road is rocky, so I highly recommend a vehicle/tires that can handle off-roading. Enjoy your stay!!

A Secluded Big Bend Visit

This is a really nice “off the grid” property. We have always wanted to stay in a home that relied on solar power and this one fit the bill. We brought our own food and ate out once. The kitchen is well stocked and we had no problem preparing meals. Be ready to think about conserving water and electricity. We spent the majority of our 4 days in Big Bend hiking so was not at the house throughout the day. The road to the house requires a high clearance vehicle. We had a Tacoma truck that worked out fine. Ross is a great host and will answer all your questions. The views here are spectacular!

Amazing Location

Amazing location and Ross bent over backwards to make us feel safe and welcome. The house, while off grid, had all the comforts of home. The location was very close to Big Bend but stood as a destination unto itself. The sunrise, sunsets and stars will leave you awestruck!

Great Getaway

This location was as described, off grid and remote but still with all the basic comforts of home. We did not have much time here and wish we had more but were able to enjoy the peace and serenity of being near... nothing for a couple of days. It was a great base camp point for BBNP as well as Terlingua and Alpine. Would definitely make sure your vehicle can withstand the trip up the mountainside, our SUV did just fine but would have been more worried in a lower profile car or one that didn't have really good new tires (or at least a working spare). We hope to return to spend more than just a couple days here, it is a good getaway from the hustle and bustle of "real life" with 360 degree views of mountains and hills in every direction.

Wonderful Place!

Picturesque location and the cabin is literally a piece of an art handcrafted by the owner himself! The attention to details was amazing. We needed for nothing! The owner has been so helpful even when we had quite the flat tire situation! Definitely recommend this place!

Heavenly

Ross shared his little slice of heaven with us…It is such a beautiful spot. I highly recommend a weekend here enjoying the cabin, the views, the land, and the peace they all bring.

Breathtaking Views

The views were gorgeous and so was the home. Getting to the cabin felt like an adventure. Our family had a wonderful time.

Best of the Best

This is the best of the best. The cabin exceeded all of my expectations. I have stayed at many places, but Boca de la Roca is unmatched. The experience, location and most importantly the host are the best you can get. I cannot say enough great things about Ross, he knows the area, communicates well, is caring and helpful. The cabin has views that you will not be able to get enough of, I could not stop taking pictures. On top of everything, it is fully stocked and has wifi. Beds were very comfy and bathrooms were great. My family and i will never forget this place and will be back! Thank you Ross!

ultimate seclusion

If you’re looking for a true getaway from city life, while maintaining excellent Wi-Fi, this is the place to stay! We had a great time in the house, wandering the mountain, and hiking in Big Bend with our almost 2 year old. We cooked and ate all our meals here, and enjoyed sitting on the front porch for most meals. The owner has built a truly unique property and provides a great experience!

Definitely Recommend

Great place to stay especially if you appreciate maintaining a healthy planet, and interesting and beautiful building workmanship. The views are incredible in every direction. If you have small children you do need to know that the bedrooms are accessible from the outside only. The owner is very helpful and goes above and beyond to help you have a wonderful stay. I would definitely recommend this home to family and friends who want to stay close to Big Bend NP.

Amazing Slice of Heaven

What an amazing little slice of heaven! The house is not only artistically unique, but clean and had everything we needed to be absolutely comfortable. Ross, the host is outstanding, made sure that we knew where everything was and checked on us several times while we were there. Would highly recommend especially if you would like a serene, quiet, and amazing get away!

We Had The Most Amazing Time

We had the most amazing time in Boca de la Roca cabin. It’s a magical place and if you like to look at stars, doesn’t get better than this. The inside of the cabin is modern, clean and well thought through (very nice decorations). The views are breathtaking and this is the perfect getaway if you want to be in nature. Highly recommend!

Words Can't Describe

Words can't describe! Wonderful place to stay. The views are incredible. During the day you have a 360 degree view of the mountains and valleys all around you, and at night the skies come alive with an amazing light show of stars. The house is very clean, stylish and accommodating. You have every amenity you would need to have a great stay, from hot water showers, a full complimentary kitchen with everything needed to cook a great meal, to panoramic views. The Wi-Fi was great and was able to get phone service as well. Well worth the money spent.

Wonderful Place

Wonderful place and the host was amazing. We will definitely be back. The views!!! Can’t even put into words!

Perfect for our stay

The house is exactly what is pictured and perfect for our stay. The road up to it is a little intimidating the first time, but Ross lead us up and it got easier every time we did it on our own. The location is stunning, beautiful view of sunsets and sunrises, and the best view of stars I’ve ever seen. We personally had no problems with the limited water or solar power, but that’s not everyone’s cup of tea so take into consideration - but I would definitely recommend booking here!

What an amazing stay

This is such an incredible property to spend time in the great outdoors. The quiet, the natural beauty, and the cabin itself will take your breath away. Ross is a superb host, the location near Big Bend is so convenient, and the night time sky is something to behold.

If you're looking for a view and silence, this is it!
Property was as described and Ross was a great host. The communication and attention to detail is worth noting as well. If you're looking for a place that is out of the way with many of the luxuries of home, this is it.

No Words to Describe

There are literally no words to describe this place, we've stayed here twice and it'll never get old! The views are breathtaking and it's so nice to escape from the chaotic world. The owner, Ross, is the nicest guy and so helpful. The stay here is well worth it, a beautiful cabin with an amazing experience.

Enjoyed Every Moment

We came to Boca de la Roca for our honeymoon and enjoyed every moment. Ross and his family were very welcoming, made sure we made it to the cabin, walked us through everything and ensured that our stay was enjoyable. The space is exactly as pictured and the pictures don’t do the views justice. If you are in need of place to go to disconnect from the world for a little bit, this is the place to do it.

Amazing Trip

By far the most unique experience we have found in Texas. Ross has created a one of a kind house that has to be seen to be truly appreciated. The area was incredible and felt like another planet at times. The drive up to the property is a bit rough but we took it slow and my SUV (Not 4wd) handled it fine. The views are breathtaking and the amenities are top notch. We will be back.

There's Something Very Special About This Home

I’ve stayed in Airbnb’s all over the world. However, there was something very special about this home. Ross incorporated so many personal details that makes each section of the home special. He created such a magnificent space to share with other people made which made this home truly remarkable. The girls and I said it many times- Wow we feel so blessed to be part of this home for a few days. At night we’d turn all the lights out and you can see every star and the Milky Way. We felt like we owned the mountain! 4 girls on a road trip through West Texas- this home was a highlight and a treat! Ross is also a great person. We was so kind and patient with us. Thank you!

Come for the park, stay for the stars

We visited Big Bend in October and based out of Boca de la Roca. We had an absolutely fantastic stay. Ross was a great host, meeting us at his house to show us the way to the cabin, and was always available via text. The cabin itself is as good as all the other reviews say. We had no problems with power or water with two people and standard usage. We cooked breakfast and dinner for three nights and can attest that the kitchen is well stocked. Cell service was spotty with Verizon but the wifi was strong and consistent and there is a voip landline. Bonus, a friendly roadrunner seems to have made this territory his home and visited us every morning. We also saw a desert fox that led the way home up the drive for a ways. A very important tip though is to have an SUV or other vehicle with a higher road clearance as the windy dirt road up to the cabin is a bit bumpy. We had a 2WD SUV and had no issues. We had an amazing stay and the stars really are big and bright down here. Would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking to experience the desert but keep some of the comforts of home. We will be back.

Breathtaking

There isn't a picture around that can accurately show the beauty of this property and home. Attention was given to every detail. Ross was amazing to work with and we had great communication. The only thing I can say is that a week was not enough. We can't wait to go back, get off the grid, and completely unwind.

As Remote As It Gets. Stars Will Blow Your Mind

Ross is an incredible guy who is passionate about the wonderful space he has built. This is one of the most unique homes I have ever stayed in throughout my lifetime and I do plenty of traveling. If you are looking to destress and get away from the normal day to day, look no further than Boca de la Roca.

byEric S. onBoca de la Roca
Truly One of a Kind

Ross was a terrific host! The cabin was even more beautiful than the pictures online and the location was truly one of a kind. The kitchen and living quarters are tastefully designed and living off the grid was a great experience! Make sure to bring a high clearance vehicle for the off road adventure up and down to the cabin's remote location. The pitch black sky and complete isolation the cabin provides will make the extra effort worth it 🙂 Highly recommend!

Everything and More

I can say without a doubt the best property I have ever stayed at!! Wanted to be able to relax and play, the house and property are situated in a location that could not be any more beautiful. From the night sky to the hiking on property, house amenities, even the sheets so well thought out!!! Location to the park is perfect. Ross the host was so very helpful, responding back very quickly which much appreciated when we had with a flat tire, and needed a place to fix it. Would love to return, most relaxing week ever.

Breathtaking Views

Amazing views, amazing house, off-the-grid greatness!!! I can honestly say I don’t think there is a better view than this anywhere. I was drawn to this house for it was different! Learning Ross the host built this himself added to just how cool it is! If you need a place to unwind, take a hike, see nature, sit on the porch with great breezes, take in beautiful sunsets and star gazing at its best, this place is for you! Ross was a great host and the house and amenities were perfect!!!!!

Epic

This place was better than we thought it would be - and we had high expectations. Very secluded and private. Amazing off grid house close to Big bend National Park - it was epic. Stars were amazing and the nights weren't hot and very comfortable for August. We will be back. One of the best vacations I've ever been on.

Beauty and Divine Mystery

Loved our stay here and Ross was a terrific host. I am certain there are very few cabins this beautifully designed with such 360 views in Big Bend. We had plans to do more things but loved staring at our own view of the mountains from the porch so much that we didn’t leave. It’s off the grid, solar-powered, and everything performed perfectly, including wifi and cell service. Ross put so many loving touches into this modern, rustic place. One tip: It’s better to have a 4-wheel drive to get up the final road to the cabin, but we made it without one (in a Grand Cherokee).

The place to stay!

The desert never looked better!

Boca de la Roca was a wonderful escape! I went for a little retreat with my girlfriends and it’s just what we needed.

The views are AMAZING! We spent hours just sitting outside and starting out into the beautiful desert. It’s truly mesmerizing and  unforgettable. This cabin is secluded, but close enough to visit the national park, the ghost town, and even Marfa.

The cabin itself was clean, spacious, and well taken care of. 10/10!

byJennifer onBoca de la Roca
This place is AMAZING!

We visited Terlingua for a girls trip and the cabin, the views, everything about it is beyond beautiful! The owner was wonderful to work with and made sure our group of 4 was well educated on the house and the area! I definitely want to go back with family! Highly recommend staying here!

Beautiful Cabin, Amazing Trip

This place is amazing. As great as the pictures are that you see, still doesn't do it justice once you arrive. Secluded with beautiful views. My family went to Big Bend for a few days to road trip and hike the park. Couldn't have stayed at a better place. The host, Ross was very communicative and helpful during our stay with suggestions on places to eat, visit etc. Highly recommend this location

This Place Is Amazing

This place is amazing and so is the property owner, Ross! Incredible views from every spot of the house. We saw mule deer and javelinas or peccaries (not sure which) near the home. The rental is private and remote with modern amenities. Cell service and Wi-Fi worked perfectly from the home. Location was perfect, we visited both the national and state parks. The view at night is incredible, it almost doesn't seem real! The sunrises and sunsets look like a painting, just beautiful! Full service kitchen, with gas range and microwave. Can’t wait to go back.

byKelsey M. onBoca de la Roca
Loved This Stay

Loved this stay, we felt extremely welcomed and taken care of. Really well designed and built cabin and we felt every small touch was thought through. Extremely clean and a beautiful view of sunrise, sunset and the stars. The photos don't do it justice, it really is the most remote location you can find that also has easy access to town and the National Park. You do need a vehicle that's higher off the ground to get up the unpaved mountain, we rented a crossover and it was definitely needed. Overall, great stay! Will definitely recommend to family and friends and would stay again if we're ever back in the area!

Its a Top Place in the United States

This house. My heart. It is one of the most beautiful and unique properties my family and I have ever stayed at - and we like to think we have stayed at some beautiful places. The mile and a half driveway up to the house lets you know this isn’t your average stay. Glad we had 4WD and Ross’ help getting to the place the first time. Everything in the house feels special and well thought out. The kitchen was the perfect size for our one week stay - enough to hold the groceries we needed and cook 2 of our 3 meals. Bedrooms were comfortable and the positioning of the house meant cool desert breezes came in your windows every night to cool things down. A bonus: The fact that it’s off the grid taught my two teenage boys how to take quick showers and be thoughtful about energy they were consuming. 😉 But that’s not why you stay here. Every morning our collective breaths were taken away by the views. You’re on your own mountain and can literally see for miles and miles. One night we watched for HOURS while a storm blew in. Sunrises and sunsets were incredible. In the morning sitting on the porch, it’s quiet and peaceful as you watch birds fly by and the cacti and grasses blow in the wind. And at night? THE STARS. While we were there we also saw a super moon AND a lunar eclipse so it felt unreal. Ross is also a thoughtful and responsive host. We loved hearing about the cabin and he made sure our stay was a special one. Listen to his recommendations on places to eat (Bad Rabbit Cafe and DB’s Rustic BBQ were our favorites!) and what to do. It’s about 35 min to Terlingua and 55 to the park. You won’t notice either because the scenery is so captivating. You will not find a place like this anywhere in the area…and I’d say it’s a top place in the United States for us. My husband just kept saying “This place is magical.” And he was right.

byLawerence M. onBoca de la Roca
High On A Plateau

Great location high on a plateau. We enjoyed the 1-mile private loop road for evening hiking... javelina & deer. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Showers, rest rooms, bedrooms, living area with kitchen, and deck area, all well appointed and thought out. Enjoyed the stay... note: the road up to the house, just under 1.5 miles, will require a truck our other high clearance vehicle. Low Gear!

byJameson B. onBoca de la Roca
Do yourself a favor, and book now while you still can!

From the first moment you arrive you realize this place is one of a kind. The property owner, Ross, is super helpful and has good reason to be proud of his one of a kind property. The rental is remote with modern amenities. If you’re worried about being unreachable, don’t be. Cell service was good and Wi-Fi was great. If you want to be unreachable, you can be that too. Location is beautiful and something out of a postcard. Close (by area standards) to both the national and state parks. We looked around a lot, and there is just nothing like this property available. Seriously. You could spend most of a day just checking out the area around the cabin. The nighttime sky was unbelievable. Mule deer family make nice quiet neighbors. Full service kitchen, with gas range. Beds were comfortably. Solar and water catchment systems worked great. Living off the grid shouldn’t be this nice. It’s really hard to say enough good things about this property. Can’t wait to go back.

Awesomely Awesome!

What an awesome getaway! Our first night was a reset for us... walking the trail, exploring the grounds, watching the sunset, and enjoying the majestic star filled night. The quietness and stillness of the mountain retreat was truly a blessing and a much needed reset...the sweetness of the fresh air and natural beauty surrounding you - perfection! The property is first class and so worth the trip!

Then the next day enjoying Big Bend only added to the experience and just a short beautiful drive from the property!

Thank you to Ross for the warm welcome and special treats, and even post cards for our kids and family ready to send from Terlingua. The special, personal touches were everywhere and greatly appreciated! Well done!

Best Spot Around

Hands down our new favorite spot for our visits to the Big Bend parks. We have stayed at multiple places in the area that are nice but this place has it all - the best views, wonderful patio, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, prime location, etc. Ross and his wife are wonderful hosts and have done a great job with this rental.

We already booked our next stay!

bySarah H. onBoca de la Roca
Views Can't Be Beat

Ross was a great communicator throughout our stay. Upon booking he called to go over some details of the property with us and to reassure us that he’d help us get to the home because access is quite remote and not particularly well marked unless you are familiar with the area. Ross ended up meeting us at his home (which is between Alpine, TX and Big Bend NP) and leading the way in his pickup to the cabin, about 25 minutes away. The first half of the drive was easy in our fully loaded (5 people and lots of gear) Odyssey minivan, but the ascent up the gravel/rock driveway for the final 15 minutes was quite tricky. After we unloaded all our gear at the cabin, the extra clearance made the subsequent ventures down and up the driveway much less difficult. If at all possible, as Ross recommends, I, too would highly recommend a high clearance 4WD vehicle. It would be an easy trip if you drive one of those. As for the “cabin”... beautiful and thoughtfully constructed. We had everything we needed for our family of 5. The views can’t be beat— literally on top of a mountain overlooking a valley and other mountains in the distance, with beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and all the stargazing you could hope for. Home is off the grid due to its location, but amenities did not suffer. We had no issues with water or electricity, and the WiFi was strong. The location is great, too. 45 minutes from the entrance to Big Bend NP. In TX, 45 minutes is just down the road... man that’s a big state. We would highly recommend this property, and would definitely stay here again if we get a chance to return!
