Had a good stay

Had a good stay at Ross' place. The skies couldn't have been darker. You can see the Milky-way with your bare eyes. We didn't have any issues with the house or host. Would recommend.

Beautiful house in a fantastic place

Beautiful house in a fantastic place. You feel one with the nature around you. The view never bores. At night, the star splendor, and the view over the park during the day. Would book again soon. And despite being off the grid, all amenities are provided. Ross and his family are particularly friendly people and communicate clearly and quickly.

Gorgeous, Private, Comfortable

Gorgeous, private, comfortable, stylish cabin with breathtaking views. We've stayed at many places in the area and this was top-tier. A lovely retreat for our 24th anniversary! Would also be a great space for two couples. We look forward to returning and sharing with others!

Stunning location with incredible views

This thoughtfully built cabin is in a stunning location with incredible views of the desert at all times of the day. We took lovely walks directly on the premise, a canoeing trip on the Rio Grande, and some quirky restaurant and bar outings in Terlingua Ghosttown. Host communication was also excellent and made for four very memorable days here.

One of the coolest houses we've stayed in

Probably one of the coolest houses we’ve stayed in. The views are amazing! We had an amazing time and plan on staying here again. Peaceful spot to get away from city life for a few days. Loved it

Beautiful Location on Top of the Hill

The home took full advantage of the beautiful location on top of the hill, with mountains nearby. We loved sitting on the deck at sunrise, sunset, all the time! Ross was a great host, answering all questions quickly, and even dropped off an extra water jug when it got low during our stay.

Loved the house!

Loved the house! Views were fantastic and location was very private. Ross was super responsive and sent great instructions for check in and use of the house. Close enough to Big Bend for day trips in to the park.

Boca de la Roca Rocks!

We had a great stay at Boca de la Roca. The house is located at the top of the hill with a 360 degrees of amazing views and it is a short drive to the Big Band national park. Being there feels like you are transported into another, tranquil, world. Each of the well-appointed bedrooms has its own bathroom and the kitchen/leaving area is equipped with everything we needed. Maybe, having a toaster would be nice, but maybe it is intentionally not there as the house is solar powered. We would definitively stay here again if in the area.

Awesome stay - Great hosts! Outrageous views on top of a bluff!

5 star cabin under a sky full of stars!

We really enjoyed the time spent in the cabin which have a 5 star amenities and the sky is 5 star too….no…there are way more than five stars!!!
What we appreciated the most is that the house is environmental friendly so they have rainwater tanks and solar panels.
Then, Ross and his wife are the best host that you can have over there…they help us in each way possible!
Couldn’t be a better choice for staying in the Big Bennd area… we never forget that night!
We traveled from Rome, Italy to be there and we really enjoyed every single moment…What an unforgettable night!

our stay couldn't have been better

Our stay couldn't have been better. The hospitality was beyond measure and the actual cabin was unbelievable and very welcoming. We would refer all of our friends to stay at this place. Kellen Ross went above and beyond anyplace where we have ever stayed previously. We will definitetly be back one day!

Highly Recommend

Beautiful property with lots of views and solitude. We hiked up the Mesa and watched the sunset. I wouldn’t say it was easy but definitely worth it! The house was so unique and interesting. It was super clean and cozy. They have COTTON SHEETS!! I stayed at 4 places on this trip and this was the only one that didn’t have hot unbreathable polyester sheets. What a luxury! It made the last leg of our trip so comfortable. Ross was very helpful and accommodating. Note: you’ll need 4x4 or good car for off road to get up the driveway. Overall highly recommend! I hope to stay there again.

Truly one of the best locations and stays you will find in Terlingua

Truly one of the best locations and stays you will find in Terlingua. Super secluded and peaceful, but not too far from the ghost town. Hosts are wonderful and communicative!

Amazing

It was amazing to get to stay here. The peaceful location with jaw-dropping views, the unique and thoughtful design of the cabin, the mountain (!), and friendly, helpful hosts who genuinely care. Perfect.

Beautiful and Unique Home

Stayed in this beautiful and unique home for two nights. It is even more picturesque than in the photos. Ross is a great communicator, he will greet you and walk you through all the differences of living in a home off-the-grid. Be aware that you will need a vehicle with decent ground clearance to access the home as the only way to get there is on a fairly steep dirt road. Boca is a great place to get away from the city and will always hold a special place in my heart as I chose Ross’ home as the place to propose to my girlfriend. Great home, even greater view of the starry night sky.

unique stay of your life!

Be ready for the unique stay of your life! Quiet, off-grid mountain top cabin with a view that’ll knock your socks off! Read the description carefully — this is not just any ol’ rental place. This place is an experience worth having!

The only way to experience west texas

If you’re looking for a quiet location with amazing views look no further. The house is beautiful and has all the necessities covered. We spent Christmas with our teenagers and had an amazing time. If you don’t have a vehicle that is able to maneuver through primitive roads, you may want to reconsider. We visited Big Bend National park and Fort Davis mountains during our visit.

we absolutely loved our stay

We absolutely loved our stay! We have come to visit Big Bend annually and this was our first time at Boca De La Roca. The location is far out and up on a hill, giving you extra privacy and an awesome view. We did the hike up the peak in the back yard and the view was even more incredible! The kitchen was perfect for our Thanksgiving dinner looking out to the sunset landscape. Our host was very communicative and gave very clear directions on how to use things around the house, as well as checking in on our stay. Definitely would love to stay again!

This spot if perfect for couples

This spot is perfect for a set of couples looking to gaze at the stars, do some hiking and enjoy breath taking views ; I can’t imagine the views getting any better than they are from the front porch at Boca de la Roca. Our host, Ross was super friendly and accommodating. The trek to the house is just that, nothing too wild but definitely easiest in a truck or high clearance vehicle.

bySandra C. onBoca de la Roca
So peaceful and remote

We stayed at Boca de la Roca for a friend’s birthday trip and really enjoyed it. The property was so peaceful and remote, but also felt safe and secure. The house is truly off the grid, minus having WiFi. It’s run by solar and the water is collected in rain barrels. The owners put a lot of detail and charm into the design of the home which we loved. The drive to the property is about 9 miles off the highway, then a trek up the mountain (which was fun!). We were glad to be in a truck, but we didn’t need 4-wheel drive. The weather was rainy and foggy the whole time we were there, so we didn’t get to enjoy the view much, but we are looking forward to coming back!

Magical Stay

We had an absolutely magical stay. The views were stunning, and we were treated some of the most spectacular sunrises, sunsets, and stargazing I've ever seen. The decor is thoughtful and unique, and the whole place was the perfect home base for us to explore Big Bend and Terlingua. Make sure you have a car with decent clearance; we had an SUV and it was able to handle the dirt road up to the property just fine. The drive is worth it though!

Loved Boca de la Roca

Such fabulousness! We loved the location and the unique property. So fun to stargaze at night, like your own private observatory! Loved Boca de le Roca!!!!!

A+ Adventure

If you're looking for adventure, tranquility, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, easy access to Big Bend Parks, and just a peaceful place to rest after a full day of activities, then Boca de la Roca is the place for you! Communication with Ross and Christin was excellent. Finding the meeting point was easy thanks to their directions despite having no cell service. Following Christin up the rocky mountainous road was as other reviewers describe, but my front-wheel drive rented Lexus RX350 made it up and down for 5 days without issue. As for the property, it's super clean, well appointed, nicely decorated, and exactly as described. The kitchen, dining, and sitting room is in the middle of the property. The 2 bedrooms with en suite baths are at each end with individual entrances. We enjoyed the separation and the space of the property. Additionally, the deck was lovely for nightly star gazing and relaxing. We lucked out with a massive lighting storm one night that was incredible. Be warned, if you are used to living in the city or even the suburbs like me, it may take you a night to adjust to silence. No traffic, sirens, or loud noises. Nothing! I had to turn on white noise to get to sleep the first night. The house is about 30 mins from Big Bend and a few restaurants and markets. We got groceries in Alpine, and enjoyed evenings at home except for one night at the Long Draw Pizza, which was excellent. I would highly recommend this property as your home base in Big Bend.

This house is amazing

We so enjoyed our stay at Terlingua, mostly because of this house. This house is amazing! We are a family of 4 and we were quite comfortable. The star gazing was so incredible. I really wish we would have brought along a camera--cell phone photos do not do this starry sky justice. We took advantage of the available hiking nearby a few times and we were challenged. Coming home from day outings was always fun-- going up the road to the house there are spectacular views. Our hosts were very knowledgeable about the area. And they were timely when we would shoot them a question via text. It was like staying at a friend's house. I highly recommend staying at this unique, fabulous house! You will not be disappointed!

Pure Magic

This place is pure magic! The house itself was clean, fully stocked with everything we could need, and looks just like the pictures. The views were breathtaking. We spent a ton of time on the porch watching sunrises, sunsets, and stargazing at night. We also loved having outdoor space to walk and hike on property for the days we didn’t make it out to Big Bend. On top of all of that, Christin and Ross were such kind and gracious hosts. They truly went above and beyond. We cannot wait to stay at Boca de la Roca again!

Most Magical Time

We had the most magical time staying Ross's place and marveling at the gorgeous views and starry skies. The space is beautiful, the location breathtaking, Ross and his wife are so kind, communicative, and go out of their way to ensure that you'll have a great experience and feel right at home.

Absolutely Magnificent

The views are stunning. Absolutely magnificent. The cabin is pristine. The design choices were perfect. The hosts are very nice. Go ahead and pull the trigger. You won’t regret it! Also, if you are interested in star gazing or astrophotography, you found the perfect place. I have never seen more stars in my life.

byKaren E. onBoca de la Roca
highly recommend

We were met by Christin, one of the owners, and followed her to the cabin. Would be hard to find on your own the first time but easy to return to once you have been there. Everything was exactly as described. Ross had called beforehand to go over everything and Christin took us through the property again when we arrived. Be prepared to conserve water and utilities as it is off the grid and rainwater supplied. If we hadn’t chosen this area in mid-June when temps were above 100 during the day I am sure we would have enjoyed it more. We cooked dinner and the gas stove worked well. Nicely supplied with all the kitchen tools and dishes you could need. We would rent again but next time in early Spring or Fall when not so hot. I highly recommend if you want something totally different but nice.

much more than advertised

Boca de la Roca is actually much more than advertised. From picture worthy sunrise views from your bedroom window to the vast array of stars on display from your private deck at midnight, there is nothing more relaxing than staying at a place where every detail has been careful planned. Even though the drive up to your destination is not a paved road...its well worth the effort. We hiked the property and it was every bit as fun as the Park. This place is a 5 star Big Bend get-a-way! Recommend and would definitely do it again. Thanks again Ross.

Best Stars Ever

The craftsmanship of this house is amazing. Everything fit so well. Decorated like a pro. Away from the hustle and bustle of big city, this "in the mountain" get away was perfect for a GWA (girls’ weekend away). Being city girls, we were able to navigate easily with solar power and rainwater which all added to the ambiance of the property.

The owners were so attentive and welcomed every question and call. Very friendly.

Looking forward to bringing my family back.

Such Incredible Views

Really enjoyed our few days out at the cabin. Such incredible views and easy access to Big Bend. Great way to spend a peaceful few days.

Priceless and Phenomenal

The views are priceless and the customer service is phenomenal. My husband, 13 and 8 year old, and I decided to enjoy a weekend away from the city. It did not disappoint. We took a telescope, volleyball and football to keep ourselves busy. Unfortunately, we forgot the board games. The house is divided into three separate sections: the common area and each room is on opposite sides from each other with their own bathrooms. We also took groceries and water. All the cooking was done in the house. There was Black Rifle coffee (my fave!), spices and every kitchen item you need to cook. I just wish there was more bathroom towels. We drove a Subaru outback and it did just fine.

amazing experience

It is an amazing experience to stay here. The stars! Make sure you have a four wheel drive vehicle, you’ll need it for the drive up. We weren’t brave enough to get up and down the road more than once, but were very happy hiding out at the house (and had previously stayed in Terlingua for easier access to the park). A totally unique stay!

byEllie U. onBoca de la Roca
secluded and quiet

Secluded and quiet. The perfect weekend. Hiking right behind the house was awesome.

Amazing Secluded Quietness with Views

This property is wonderful if your looking for peace and quiet seclusion with beautiful views of the Big Bend area mountains. It’s out of the way a little but so worth the trip. It seemed like we had the sky and mountain to ourselves. We will definitely stay here again and hopefully again.

This place is fantastic

This place is fantastic. Super cool air bnb set up. The porch is perfectly protected against the wind and perfect for sitting outside with friends looking at the stars. Love the location!

Unique off-the-beaten-path gem

A unique off the beaten path gem. We loved sitting out on the deck and watching the sunset. I wish we had more time to relax there. It is an amazing house with a cool layout. We hiked on the property and that was an adventure. Big Bend is still far away so if you are going there for the day - it is a long driving day.

byAmanda C. onBoca de la Roca
Extraordinary Starry Getaway

We stayed 3 nights with our teens, cooked all meals there, and enjoyed the incredible views and star gazing each night. Clean, comfortable beds, and everything you need to get away from it all. Went hiking/touring at Big Bend National Park, Terlingua Ghost Town, and Fort Davis State Park. So glad we brought our telescope and a 4WD SUV. Only wish is that we had given ourselves more time. This home is definitely a labor of love for Ross and his family. We will definitely come back!

byIgor V. onBoca de la Roca
highly recommend

Easily one of the most thoughtfully appointed homes that we have stayed at. The views were amazing and you can literally hike from right out the front door. Highly recommend if you are visiting the Big Bend area. Ross was truly a great host.

Amazing, secluded location up in the mountains. Would highly recommend.

Lovely Cabin in the Desert

The cabin was very clean with lovely decor and excellent views! The stars at night are amazing!! Not to far away from Big Bend National Park. No issues with the cabin being off the grid. Communication was very easy with quick responses. A vehicle with AWD or 4-wheel drive is needed as stated, and totally worth it. You will not regret staying here.

Most Immaculate, Majestic Property

My husband and I have traveled extensively and this is hands down the most immaculate, majestic property we've had the pleasure of enjoying. It's proximity to Big Bend was perfect and the quiet joy of nature all around us at night was blissful. The view of the expansive terrain during the day and the bright stars at night were amazing. We are anxious to come back again soon!

byTucker R. onBoca de la Roca
we couldn't have asked for a more special place to stay

This was our first trip to Big Bend and we couldn't have asked for a more special place to stay. Incredible views from the front of the house and spectacular views from a short hike up the mountain on the property. One of the coolest homes we have ever stayed in and can't recommend this place enough. Ross, the host, made us feel right at home the minute we stepped foot on his beautiful property. He was responsive and attentive throughout the entire process leading up to the trip and during our duration of the trip. If you want to get away and explore West Texas, you have to stay here!!

byEdward C. onBoca de la Roca
Amazing Place

An amazing place with a great view and location. Mr Ross was very helpful and responsive. The home itself was very comfortable and had everything I needed. Definitely suggest renting an SUV or truck as part of the road getting there isn't paved and hilly. Highly recommend this location especially if you're looking for great views in a comfortable, private setting!

byVictoria P. onBoca de la Roca
Cabin is Amazing

The cabin is amazing- beautifully crafted and comfortable inside, and awesome views into the plain and hills beyond. The outdoor seating is perfect for taking it all in, and relaxing in the desert peace. Great sunrises/sunsets & stars. Ross was very helpful and sorted any hiccups that we had.
